Jean Rose Hall, 84, of Palmer Ave in New Rochelle, NY died Monday, October 30, 2023 at Calvary Hospital. Born on December 2, 1938 in Manhattan, Jean and her twin Joan were the eldest of four daughters (including Catherine and baby Linda) born to the late Anthony and Catherine (nee Milano) Letteriello.
Beloved mother of Sarah Hall of Woodstock, loving mother-in-law to Eric Zohn, cherished grandmother to three grandchildren, Ethan, Esmé and Hayden, loving sister to surviving sister Catherine and brother-in-law Frank Lisinicchia and caring aunt to Victoria, Don, Derek, Anthony, Nicole, Cassandra, Kimberly, Arabella, Layla, Brennen and Scarlett. She loved and adored her family, as well as her loyal dog Tater. Jean was predeceased by her husband John Watt Hall in 1963.
Upon graduating Julia Richmond High School, Jean moved to Greenwich Village to study at The Actors Studio. There she met John Watt Hall, they married and had one daughter. Once a parent, Jean pivoted from acting and became a legal secretary, working for the head of Columbia Pictures and later, Warner Brothers. In her spare time Jean starred in local productions of A Streetcar Named Desire, Auntie Mame, It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and more.
She loved books, films, music and travel. Although she enjoyed Italy, London and Los Angeles, it was time spent with her grandchildren at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Woodstock that remained her favorite destination. There, she could always be found surrounded by her grandkids and Tater, fireplace crackling, excited to start a film. She'd cook her famous stuffed artichokes for Thanksgiving and wear matching pajamas with paper hats at Christmas, while laughing at her grandchildren’s stories and songs around the piano.
I will miss sitting outside with you in the Summer Mom, looking out over the garden.
Jean's Funeral Mass will be held at 10AM on Monday, November 6 at the St. Augustine Church, Larchmont, NY. Burial will be 12 noon on Tuesday at the Woodstock Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor her life with donations in Jean’s name to the Children’s Craniofacial Association: https://ccakids.org/donate/
