Kevin Hunter Obituary

Kevin Hunter Obituary

After a long fight with cancer, Kevin R. Hunter passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.

Kevin was born January 10, 1958, in Kingston NY to Reginald and Catherine (Brandt) Hunter.  He was raised, lived and worked in Woodstock, NY.

Kevin began his career with the NYS Thruway where he worked on the Berkshire Spur.  In 1978, he started work with the Town of Woodstock, where he worked for 35 years.  He worked first for the Woodstock Highway Department and then, after certification, became the Superintendent of the Town’s Water and Sewer Department.

At age 55, after 35 years with the town, he retired and spent his days with his family, friends and his dogs.

Kevin was an active member of the Woodstock Fire Department and the Woodstock American Legion Post 1026.  At The Post, you could find him bartending on Sundays or sitting quietly on the other side, playing Bell Jars.  His passions included watching wildlife out of his back door, taking his dogs for walks to the stream, spending time with family or volunteering to keep the Rick Voltz Memorial Little League Field mowed and ready for the kids.

He was predeceased by his son, Kevin R. Hunter, Jr., his mother Catherine Hunter, father Reginald Hunter and stepfather Wellington (Duke) Hunter Jr.  He is survived by his daughter, Stacy A. Hunter, two grandsons Gavin Sessler and Jacob Connelly.  He is also survived by his siblings Debra J. Carter, Indiana, Reginald Hunter (Nancy Wilkerson), Tennessee, Robin Hunter (Audrey), Florida, and Jacquelyn Earley (Tad), Woodstock, and his dear friends Linda and Louis Mancuso.

Visitation will be Saturday December 7th at the Seamon Wilsey Funeral Home in Saugerties from 12pm to 2pm.  The family will hold a celebration of life directly after at the Woodstock American Legion Post 1026, 10 Sgt. Richard Quinn Drive, Woodstock, NY.

Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to the Woodstock Rescue Squad or the Saugerties Animal Shelter.

Burial will be private and take place at a later date.
