Michael S. Hunold, 69, of Woodstock, NY, unexpectedly passed away on December 3, 2022 after a recent diagnosis of glioblastoma.
Michael was born on June 26, 1953 to Tatiana (Tania) Padwa and Siegfried Hunold in Paris, France. After graduating from the Dalton School in 1970, he went on to study philosophy at Connecticut College and then earned an M.F.A. in film studies at New York University. After graduation, Michael worked as an actor and free-lance photographer, eventually getting into the film industry where he enjoyed a nearly 40 year career. Michael, known in the industry as "Spice", was loved by everyone and was considered one of the best on-set technicians in the business. His extensive film and television credits include Angel Heart,The Departed, The Royal Tenenbaums, Do The Right Thing, and The Devil Wears Prada.
Michael married his first wife Jaye Smith in 1989. He met his second wife Julia Perce in 1996, and they had two children, Dashiell (21) and Ryder (18) Hunold. Michael was immensely proud of his two sons.
Michael was a force of nature with a generous, optimistic demeanor and a sharp intellect. Like his mother and grandmother Tania and Vadia (both painters), and his grandfather Vladimir (a composer), Michael was a respected artist in the Woodstock community. He was an accomplished photographer and an enormously talented guitar player. His photographs were recently exhibited at Davis-Ortin Gallery, and he played in and recorded with numerous bands including “The Chestnut Hill Gang”, “Plan B”, “Dad, Come Home!”, and “The Eric Stocker Band”.
Michael is survived by his two sons, his sister Joanna Ploof of Santa Barbara, CA, his step-father Tony Robinson of New Paltz, NY, his companion Inyo Charbonneau of Woodstock, NY, and many friends and extended family, all of whom lost him too soon.
The family requests that any notes of condolence be sent to 229 Chestnut Hill Road, Woodstock, NY, 12498.
