WOODSTOCK… Paula DeMatteis Stukenborg, passed away peacefully Wednesday January 10, 2024 surrounded by family at her home in Woodstock, NY. She was 97.
Born in New York City on September 5, 1926, her early childhood was split between Italy and New York City before settling in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
Paula married Charles Stukenborg in 1954 and after spending summers in the Catskills, they relocated to Woodstock in 1971. She worked at the Woodstock branch of what was then Inter-County Savings bank; retiring after 20 years.
Paula was an avid reader and lover of classical music, opera, ballet, Shakespeare, the theater, movies, PBS, cats and one specific toy poodle.
Paula was pre-deceased by her husband Charles, brother Joseph DeMatteis, sister Nunzia DeMatteis and sister-in-law Helen Barrand. She is survived by daughters Lisa Stukenborg and Walli Ann Haelen; son-in-law Ronald Haelen; grandchildren Andrew Haelen (Erika) and Nina Haelen; great granddaughters Lyla, Lexi and Madi; niece Katherine Barrand (Marcus), nephews Keith Barrand (Maggie), Stephen Barrand (Kitty), David Barrand (Denise) and one fur grandchild Ava.
